Prof. Dr. Spetzger completed his study of human medicine in Heidelberg and Zurich and graduated in USA (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in Medical Science). Afterwards he specialized in neurosurgery and received his qualification as University Lecturer (Habilitation) at University of Aachen (RWTH Aachen).

After several years as consultant at the Department of Neurosurgery of University of Technology in Aachen and Department of Neurosurgery of Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, since 2002 he is chairman and professor of the Department of Neurosurgery, Karlsruhe.

Prof. Spetzger is member of several medical associations, and was awarded honorary doctorates at Tbilisi State Medical University, (TSMU) Tiflis, Georgia (2008). Since 2008 he is Honorary Director of First People’s Hospital Changzhou, China.
