Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Reul started his career as a policeman and later obtained his university-entrance diploma by attending additional evening high school. At university he earned a medical degree and qualified in neurology, neuroradiology, diagnostic radiology and sports medicine. In 1996 he received his PhD with a research project on the subject of the interventional treatment of aneurysma and became professor for Neuroradiology at the University of Aachen and Bonn in 1995 and 1997. From 2001 to 2004 he was Medical Director of the Robert Janker Klinik in Bonn and from 2002 to 2007 Senior Chief Physician in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology in Siegen. In 2008 he founded the Beta Klinik in Bonn.
As an internationally renowned neuro-interventionalist, Prof. Reul specializes in minimally invasive surgery of brain and spine vessels as well as the minimally invasive treatment of spine, especially of disc diseases practicing endoscopic surgery. In the diagnostic field, he has developed an effective check-up concept for preventive medicine.
Prof. Reul´s scientific career is marked by extensive research activities (University of Aachen, Bonn, Siegen), numerous publications in magazines and books, monographs and science awards. He is an active member of several international associations, and since 2011 he is President of the World Federation of Interventional Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN).
Prof. Dr. Reul is well known as an extreme-sports athlete far beyond his home country Germany. He finished 40 marathons and one Sahara marathon (250 km, Marathon des Sables), crossed Australia, America and Europe nonstop by bike in record time, and successfully participated in 5 'Ironman' triathlons. He also performed a sensational doping self-experiment in Alpe d´Huez previously to the Tour de France in 2007. For many years, Dr. Reul has been working as an anti-doping specialist, and today he is the anti-doping commissioner of one of the biggest German sports associations.
