In case of so-called check-ups or preventive examination, German health insurance companies do only pay for medically necessary examinations, i.e., those which are absolutely necessary at the moment of examination. German patients have to pay the costs for those examinations that are not acutely indicated. Patients from foreign countries are generally billed in compliance with GOÄ and the Beta Klinik tariff and have to pay themselves except they have a valid agreement to cover costs from their embassy.
