Additional Information

Professor Rapp studied human medicine in Düsseldorf and was able to gain extensive experience in the field of immunotherapy for malignant brain tumors during her first residency year at the department of Neurosurgery at the research laboratory of the ITZ at the University Hospital Düsseldorf, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. rer. nat. R. Sorg. Her interest in neuro-oncology developed as a result, laying the foundation for the current GlioVax study, which investigates dendritic cell-based immunotherapy for glioblastoma patients. Professor Rapp is a member of the GLIOMATCH consortium, which unites international researchers at the EU level to further explore the role of immunotherapy in neuro-oncology.

Since 2013, Professor Rapp has specialized further as a neuro-oncological neurosurgeon, leading and teaching over 2500 brain tumor surgeries. A particular focus has been on performing awake surgeries. In order to provide a holistic treatment approach for patients and their families, Professor Rapp complemented her training with additional qualifications in medicinal tumor therapy. As a psycho-oncologist, she is able to understand the complex situation of neuro-oncological patients and offer competent care.

Professor Rapp is the mother of two children and wishes to encourage especially young female colleagues to balance family and academic careers. She supports female neurosurgeons in various mentoring programs. Her commitment was honored with the FamSurg Prize, and she was recognized as a “Diverse Leader” by the European Society for Neurosurgery.

Professor Rapp has published over 100 articles, serves as a reviewer for internationally renowned medical journals, and has recently been appointed as an Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Oncology (Impact Factor 3.3).
