Translational Neuro-Oncology: Your Access to Tomorrow's Medicine

At our Brain Cancer Center at Beta Clinic Bonn, we understand translational neuro-oncology not just as a research approach, but as a practiced reality that enables the direct transfer of the latest scientific findings into your individual treatment. This integrative approach ensures you benefit from innovative therapies that go beyond the current standard.
Through close collaboration with leading neuro-oncological institutions and research facilities, we maintain a continuous exchange between clinic and laboratory. This allows us to offer you personalized therapies based on the latest scientific knowledge to optimally support your treatment. A particular focus is our expertise in immunotherapy, which enables personalized and effective therapy for brain tumors.

Prof. Dr. Michael Sabel ist Neuroonkologe.

“For decades, we have established new standards for the individualized treatment of brain tumor patients within university medicine. We had to accept the limitations of the public healthcare system for our patients. The Brain Cancer Center is now forging a new path: for patients and their families.
We view our patients, their illness, and their environment individually. We are not guided by treatment standards and the limitations of the healthcare system, but by what is scientifically feasible. Our guiding principle is always the balance between life extension and quality of life. You as the patient, your relatives, and we ourselves are the treatment team together.”

– Prof. Dr. med. Michael Sabel

What Distinguishes Our Brain Cancer Center

Our center stands for medicine of the highest caliber – characterized by scientific excellence, individualized therapy design, and a consistent focus on quality of life and humanity.

Pioneering Work in University Medicine

Our physician team has spent decades establishing new standards for the individualized treatment of brain tumor patients within university medicine. The latest scientific insights from research and studies flow directly into your therapy through our diagnostic and treatment concept. Thanks to our independence from the public healthcare system, our Brain Cancer Center in Bonn can offer therapies that go beyond the usual standard.

Independence from the Public Healthcare System

As a private clinic, we are free from the boundaries of the public healthcare system. This means for you: no long waiting times, flexible and swift treatment pathways, and access to therapies that are often not yet available or accessible in public institutions.

Individualized Therapy Approaches for Tumor Diseases

Every tumor and every person is different. We take the time to holistically analyze your situation and create a tailored treatment plan. We consider not only the disease itself but also your personal needs and life circumstances.

Balance Between Quality of Life and Life Extension

Our goal is to extend your life without losing sight of your quality of life. Together with you, we weigh the benefits and risks of each therapy. Sometimes a gentler approach may be the better choice to preserve your independence and well-being – we always make these decisions in close consultation with you.

Expertise in Recurrences and Complex Brain Tumors

Our center has particular experience with tumor recurrences and complicated cases considered elsewhere as barely treatable. Even if a brain tumor returns or is located in a difficult-to-access area, our experienced neurosurgeons, who are among the best in the field of brain tumor surgery, can often still find ways. We use the most modern procedures to achieve the best possible outcomes even with recurrences and advanced tumors.

Prof. Dr. med. Marion Rapp ist Neuroonkologin.

“Our focus and expertise lie particularly in the treatment of tumors that have returned (recurrences) and are especially difficult to treat: we have become experts in this over the past 20+ years.”

– Prof. Dr. med. Marion Rapp

Access to Innovative Therapies and Trials

Thanks to our network and our own research activities, you gain access to innovative therapies with us – from novel medications to targeted therapies or personalized vaccines. We also check if participation in clinical trials is an option for you, allowing you to benefit from the latest developments in neuro-oncology.
This commitment and our values have made us a center considered one of the best clinics for brain tumors (brain metastases, gliomas, and glioblastomas) in Germany. We know that trust and hope are crucial – which is why we combine excellent medicine with empathy and accompany you and your family every step of the way.

When Standard Therapies Are No Longer Effective: We Step In Where Standard Medicine Reaches Its Limits

Unfortunately, brain tumors often return despite surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy: almost always in the case of Grade 4 glioblastoma. When standard therapy is exhausted, those affected and their relatives often feel lost in a no-man’s-land without perspective. But this is precisely where we come in: at our Brain Cancer Center, we do not leave you alone.
Gliomas are biologically complex: they grow infiltratively into healthy tissue, develop resistances to therapies, and consist of different cell types. Therefore, standard care is often insufficient. Our approach goes further – with translational precision medicine that directly transfers the latest research results into treatment. With over 3,500 surgeries, we possess particular expertise in recurrences and therapy-resistant tumors.
We individually assess whether a second chemotherapy, a change of medication, or participation in a trial is possible. If these are not options, we open up alternative, scientifically sound options beyond routine care. You benefit from short waiting times, tailored concepts, and an interdisciplinary team of experts.

Three Steps to Your Individual Therapy:

  1. Findings Uploadvia our secure portal
  2. Analysisin the interdisciplinary tumor board
  3. Personal Consultationwith all options

Your First Step Towards Individual Therapy – Quick and Easy

A serious consultation is only possible if we have a comprehensive picture of your illness, the status of diagnostics, and the therapies conducted so far. And, very importantly: How are you doing? It has proven very effective to first review all information. Our forms help you provide us with the important information easily. We then develop a plan that we can discuss personally – online or in person: whatever is best for you.
With our Findings Upload, you can securely and quickly transmit your documents to us. Here you can upload your current medical reports, imaging findings, self-assessment forms, and other important documents. Once we receive them, our physician team will review your situation and contact you immediately.

Here’s how easy it is:

  1. Fill out the form:Via our online contact form, you sign the data privacy declaration and cost coverage agreement.
  2. Upload documents:Upload your medical documents (e.g., doctor’s letters, surgical reports, self-assessment forms, MRI/CT images).
  3. Case review:Our physician team analyzes your documents and advises you on the best therapy options.
  4. The consultationis often useful as an online meeting in the first step to clarify initial open questions. If we recommend diagnostics and therapy, you will quickly get an in-person appointment.

Our Motivation

We have been neuro-oncological neurosurgeons for over 20 years. We have a central motivation that has driven us over the past decades. You as the patient are the focus: your health, your quality of life, and your lifetime.
We want to help.
To achieve this, we offer you the best possible course of action for you: completely individual. As gentle as possible. We are always scientifically based and holistically oriented, and we also understand the burden on your relatives. All this defines how we make diagnoses, make therapy decisions with you, and treat: with words, medication, or surgery.
We thank you for your trust.

Comprehensive Brain Tumor Care: Diagnosis, Therapy, and Support

At our Brain Cancer Center, you get everything from a single source. Our range of services covers all phases of treatment – from initial diagnostics for brain tumors through surgical and non-surgical therapy to aftercare and support in daily life. Here is an overview of our focus areas:

Tumor Types: Glioblastoma, Glioma, Recurrence, and Brain Metastases

Every brain tumor must be considered individually. We diagnose and treat the full spectrum of malignant tumor types in the brain:

  • Primary brain tumors “Gliomas”
  • Brain metastases
  • Tumor recurrences of metastases or gliomas

Diagnostics: cMRI, FET-PET & Spectroscopy, and Biopsy

A precise diagnosis of the brain tumor is the foundation of any successful therapy. In our facility, we use high-resolution imaging procedures like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and special methods (FET-PET in cooperation). If necessary, we perform a targeted biopsy to determine the exact tumor type and important molecular characteristics. Our experienced neuroradiologists and cooperation with renowned neuropathologists ensure no details are overlooked. This guarantees your therapy is based on a reliable diagnosis.

Therapy: Surgery, Radiation Therapy, Chemotherapy, and More

Our therapy concept in neuro-oncology is holistic and based on the latest scientific standards. Whenever possible, our neurosurgeons remove the tumor microsurgically as completely as possible – if needed, also as awake surgery to spare important brain functions. With over 1,000 performed awake surgeries for tumor removal, Prof. Dr. med. Michael Sabel and Prof. Dr. med. Marion Rapp are specialists in function-preserving awake surgery. Together with leading linguists from the Grodzinsky Labs, our team has developed new methods for preserving language ability, which are applied exclusively in our center.
Additionally or alternatively, radiation therapy (e.g., precise stereotactic radiation) and chemotherapy are used, which we conduct in close collaboration with radiation therapists and oncological partners. Furthermore, we offer innovative treatments for tumor diseases: from personalized immunotherapies and vaccines against tumor cells to molecularly targeted medications to prevent the growth and spread of cancer cells. Together with you, we choose the combination of treatments that promises the best chances of success.

Living with a Brain Tumor: Nutritional Advice, Psycho-Oncology, Cognitive Training

We know that brain tumor treatment is not just about the medical aspects, but about the whole person. Our team does not leave you alone in daily life either:

  • Psycho-oncological support and coaching help you and your relatives cope with emotional challenges.
  • Individually tailored nutritional advice can strengthen your body and mitigate treatment side effects.
  • With special neurocognitive testing and targeted training, we support you in maintaining or even improving mental functions – because the brain possesses an astonishing ability to recover (neuroplasticity), which we aim to promote together.
This holistic support concept significantly contributes to preserving your quality of life.

Findings Upload and Trial Participation

To make access to our expertise as easy as possible, you have various options. Via our Findings Upload, you can send us your reports and images digitally in advance – quickly, securely, and confidentially. The neuro-oncological team reviews your case and provides an initial assessment or second opinion without you having to be on-site immediately.
Furthermore, we inform you about current clinical trials and check if participation is an option for you. This gives you the chance to benefit early from promising new therapies.

Our Path – Together With You

A brain tumor diagnosis changes many things. In this situation, we want to offer you not only medical expertise but also human companionship. Our approach is professionally sound but never purely technical – because we know: it’s always about your story, your fears, and your hopes.

This is how we work for you:

  • With a clear compass:International guidelines (EANO, NOA, NCCN, ASCO, NICE) are our basis – but we don’t stare at papers, we look at you as a person.
  • With a watchful eye for the new:Medicine is developing rapidly. We review studies regularly to check for you: What is already viable today, what needs more research?
  • As a team for you:Weekly, neurologists, oncologists, and radiation therapists discuss your case – many bright minds for your best possible therapy.

Truth be told: With malignant brain tumors, we cannot promise a cure either. But we can promise:

  • No day passes unused – your time is sacred to us
  • No chance remains unexamined – we read the studies and meet colleagues: worldwide
  • No risk is taken lightly – every decision is carefully weighed

In the end, it’s not about protocols, but about your life. About making it as good as possible – day by day.
